Once reconstituted, peptide solutions have limited stability.
To extend their shelf life, it is recommended to divide the solution into smaller aliquots and store them frozen.
In general, peptide solutions remain stable for approximately 3 weeks at +4 °C and 3–4 months at −20 °C.
Avoid repeated freezing and thawing, as this may lead to degradation and reduced peptide activity.
Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides may vary in appearance — from fine loose powder to compact solid “pucks”.
Each aliquot is dispensed into vials and then freeze-dried, after which the vials are flushed with nitrogen to remove residual moisture and contaminants.
During drying, some water may sublimate directly from solid to gas, causing the material to adhere to the vial walls, making the vial appear nearly empty.
In other cases, depending on temperature and vacuum pressure, the peptide may appear as crystals, small clumps, or thin films — however, the actual peptide amount is always identical.
When freeze-drying is performed without a protective matrix (such as sucrose or mannitol), residual bound water may cause collapse during the final drying stage.
This effect does not impact the quality or purity of the peptide.
The presence of small amounts of sugars (like sucrose) helps stabilize the peptide, as their hydrogen bonds mimic those of water and reduce moisture-related collapse.
